As many of you already know, McElrea Prime (the McElrea Racing Transporter) was broken into during the week and along with several sets of race wheels, crucial tools and radios, Luffy’s N2C race suit and his beloved helmet he wore to a podium finish at Bathurst with Craig Lowndes was stolen.
Using the power of social media Luffy reached out on Twitter and Facebook with his Facebook post reaching over 290,000 people.
We are delighted to say that thanks to all of our fans and supporters the theft was so well publicised that when the police raided a warehouse as part of an undercover operation they immediately recognised Luffy’s helmet which helped them identify the rest of our stuff. Within minutes a call was made to one of our major sponsors Porsche Centre Gold Coast who notified us immediately.
With minutes to spare we managed to get everything on a flight to Melbourne in time for round five of the Porsche Carrera Cup Championship this weekend.
Not only will Luffy be in his favourite race suit and helmet but it also means that we will have proper radio equipment which is a huge bonus as we were experiencing ongoing tangling problems with the tin can fishing line setup we had resorted to.
A very special thanks to the QLD Police for recovering our stuff and getting in touch with us so quickly.
We look forward to a great weekend of racing and realise that we were very, very lucky to have all of our things returned, but we know only too well; on race days there is No Second Chance.
